hooping beach

Hooping is a complete core workout. (Cue the killer abs.) Hooping regularly can help to whittle your waist and strengthen your stomach muscles while blasting fat in these (often problematic) areas. (Studies that show that hooping burns visceral fat – the fat that is the hardest to get off the older you get, and also the most detrimental to heart health.) That’s what we’d like to call a win-win-win situation!

It’s  a full body workout.  Recent studies have suggested that hula hooping works as many as 30 of your body’s muscles.

Hooping will make you feel the (calorie) burn. Hooping has been proven to burn over 400 calories per hour , although the calorie-burn from hooping may be as high as 600 calories per hour when other parts of your body, such as your arms and legs, are engaged! Burn, calories, burn!

Hooping is good for your heart. Hooping is an intense workout for your muscles..including one of the most important muscles of all: the heart! Anyone who picks up a hoop will notice their heart rate go up in minutes! So hooping for just twenty minutes a day can count towards your moderate-vigorous intensity physical activity recommended for improving and maintaining your health.

It improves your spine’s strength and flexibility.  The movements require a significant range of motion for your spine while increased practice can train your spine to a greater range of motions than you are used to, increasing your flexibility and even preventing back injuries.

It improves hand-eye co-ordination and motor skills. Like other sports, hooping requires hand-eye co-ordination and challenges your brain as well as your muscles. Hooping in both your natural direction and your reverse directions (recommended) is an excellent opportunity for your brain to engage both your dominant and non-dominant sides while guaranteeing your body’s balance.

The “H” Factor. Happiness.  At the risk of sounding sappy, aside from these amazing physical fitness benefits, most of us fall in love with hooping because of how it makes us feel: Happy. Besides the wonderful burst of endorphins you’re likely to enjoy after a good bout of hooping, this activity can have other, more subtle positive effects on your psyche.  After hooping we often feel like younger, stronger versions of our best selves!

We will be hosting our series on select   Tuesday evenings during the Summer  with some  single  introductory workshops through the season. Check our event calendar or give us an email to find out more!
$65  fee includes 3- 1 hour series of classes, proper weighted hoop for your use AND one picture package sent after the series ends. ( 2 images sent online).  Single 90 minute Workshops $ 30 /class
Participants will also be given a chance to develop a performance at one of our FULL MOON SOCIALS during the Summer (optional). Hoops will be available for sale closer to session starts.

Arrive 10 – 15 minutes early to allow time to sign-in and prepare for your class. Out of respect for others, students who arrive 15 minutes late will not be accepted into classes. Once the class starts on the beach our teachers cannot accept walk ons.

Students will be expected to sign waivers before they begin their first class of the season. You many print out the waiver here and bring the completed form with you to save time.  We will have a class sheet printed out, please sign in when you arrive.

Hula hooping is preferably practiced in bare feet. All our classes are held on the beach and we leave it up to you whether you  choose to bring your  own mat. Depending on time of day, sunscreen is a must and you should apply liberally before joining us for your class.

Wear lightweight, flexible clothing such as shorts, T-shirts, leggings or
work-out wear. Bring an extra layer such as a comfortable hoodie until you warm up. We have public bathrooms, showers & change rooms available right next door. We also have lockers for rent.

Hooping is best practiced on an empty stomach. Please do not bring your cell phone to the class.

If you have to leave class early, let your teacher know before class begins and take a position to the back of the class. Please attend all your scheduled classes. There are no make up classes unless we cancel the class for inclement weather.

We will do our best to see that the classes are not disrupted but we are outside in a public space. Please do not bring children to class that are unattended. We cannot watch them for you. If the need is high enough we may consider bringing in childcare for one of our weekly classes.

Please take responsibility for the energy that you bring into the space.

Please smile, and say hello to the person next to you.

Please remember that the expert in anything was once a beginner.

Please remember that the practicing is cumulative, ongoing and therapeutic.

Remember why you came, enjoy your workout in nature and contribute to the classes positive energy <3
