POI Spinning Classes

Poi takes its roots in the Polynesian activity of spinning weights or balls on the end of strings. It has become a very contemporary form of expression and movement  and has been used to communicate, focus, exercise and woo for thousands of years. Perhaps you recall being on a tropical beach and being wowed by their dance with either FIRE or LED props. It is mesmerizing to watch and even more fun to learn how to do it yourself!
This adult class is playful, fun and will help you discover the creative process of movement and your own personal style with this interesting prop! We will be using various SOFT props to develop your skills,  initiate movement that will eventually become an extension of your body. One of the wonderful parts of learning POI is learning to express yourself through movement without any specific stylized dance forms. Please note WE WILL BE USING PRACTICE SOFT POI only and no fire is permitted on the beach.
